was going to poo poo that last five till i got to no. 5, a truely classic track, recently used on one of those zombie re-issues, dawn of the dead?

on par with "i hurt myself today" "when the man comes around" is such a humungous song, perfect in every way, lyric, melody, tune, sentiment, it hangs over you like a vulture ready to pluck your very soul from your body

ok so thats p!sh but i do love that song, i'd forgotten it from my childhood (i knew every word of the san quenton album at the age of till i heard it on that zombie flick

I've not heard the Cash version but the original is a cracking song, Trent Reznor at his best.

It's definitely one of the most powerful videos ever. Strangely enough it's mainly men it seems to bring to tears, most women I've spoken to about it think it's just an old man singing a sad song

Anyway I'm, sure I heard the Thread Police on their way along the corridor.

It's certainly a moving video and without wishing to put down the man in black his performance is nowhere near as powerful as the NIN version.
My favourite version has to be the one with Bowie joining NIN on stage to do the vocals, I think it was at his 50th birthday party,but I'm a bit of a sucker for the Jones boy anyway.

Bill, I live about 20mins South of Port Richey, where the man himself often came to visit his inlaws.

And Ring of Fire is a favourite of my 5 yr olds.

The thing you have to remember Tosh is that here is a guy who knows he has only a short while to live, and looking at the video, the viewer knows it as well.

Aye, i understand where Cash was (as much as you can without being in that position yourself) and the video rightly won awards but if you take the song without that context and listen to the various versions without strings attached then it's a different kettle of fish entirely.

Much also depends on context too, the original is the part of a concept album and anyone who has hear The Downward Spiral will likely always see it as the climax of that concept.
